Programme Structure

(a) Thesis Only

For the Master of Laws programme by thesis only, it is compulsory for a candidate to prepare a thesis of not more than 60,000 words worth 40 units. The candidate will be supervised by a supervisor/co supervisor/graduate committee to be determined by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee.

It is compulsory for candidates to take 6215 Legal Research Methodology as a registered audit course (AU) in the first semester of the study period.

(b) Coursework and Thesis

For the Master of Laws programme by coursework and thesis, it is compulsory for a candidate to complete ONE (1) compulsory course 6215 Legal Research Methodology, FOUR (4) elective  courses and complete a thesis of not more than 30,000 words  worth 15 units. Each course whether compulsory or elective is equivalent to 5 units.

The total number of units for  coursework and thesis is 40.

For full time candidates, the total  number of units for   coursework per semester is a maximum of 20  and a minimum of 10.

For part-time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 5.

Candidates must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 each semester before commencement of thesis writing.

(c) Coursework Only

For the Master of Laws programme through coursework only, it is compulsory for a candidate to complete ONE (1) compulsory course 6215 Legal Research Methodology and SEVEN (7) elective courses. Each course whether compulsory or elective is equivalent to 5 units.  The total number of units for coursework only is 40 units.

For full time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of  20 and a minimum of 10.

For part-time candidates, the total number of units for coursework per semester is a maximum of 10 and a minimum of 5.

Candidates must maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00 to be awarded a degree.
