Clinical Pharmacy involves the practice of pharmacy and pharmaceutical care and is one of the most rapidly developing areas of the pharmacy. The programme is conducted in two semesters (12 months). In the first semester, students will follow theoretical courses related to Clinical Pharmacy Practice, Clinical Pharmacokinetics, General Pharmacotherapeutics, and Biostatistics & Research Methodology. In the second semester, courses offered include community pharmacy, pharmacotherapeutics of specific body systems and special populations.
Students will also develop their clinical skills through clinical clerkships (compulsory and elective) throughout the year. Compulsory clerkships (Pharmacotherapy in Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Intensive Care) will be offered in both semesters. Students are also required to choose and register one elective clerkship for each semester (Clinical Pharmacokinetics, Surgery& Parenteral Nutrition, Radiopharmacy/Nuclear Medicine/Oncology, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Gynecology). Approximately 20% of the students’ time will be spent for research related to quality use of medicine and clinical pharmacy throughout the year.
In order to instill self-belonging to UKM and to embrace local culture, foreign students will have the opportunity to learn Malay Language as part of the programme.
